NEW YORK — President-elect Donald Trump announced that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be his nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, the .

“For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health,” Trump said Thursday in a post on his Truth Social site announcing the appointment. Kennedy, he said, would “end the Chronic Disease epidemic” and “Make America Great and Healthy Again!”

Trump said Kennedy, a prominent environmental attorney, would focus on tackling issues involving pharmaceuticals, food additives and chemical safety.

During the campaign, he told NewsNation that Trump had asked him to “reorganize” agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration, the Associated Press reported.

Trump also announced Dr. Mehmet Oz, a celebrity heart surgeon and television personality, as his pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The CMS oversees healthcare for more than a third of Americans, including programs like Medicare and Medicaid.

“I have known Dr. Oz for many years, and I am confident he will fight to ensure everyone in America receives the best possible Healthcare, so our Country can be Great and Healthy Again!” Trump said in a statement on Tuesday. “Dr. Oz will be a leader in incentivizing Disease Prevention, so we get the best results in the World for every dollar we spend on Healthcare in our Great Country.”
