Wis. FD launches ambulance service with 3 new rigs, staff

The Grand Chute Fire Department will no longer be using Gold Cross Ambulance and instead handle EMS in-house

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — The Grand Chute Fire Department introduced its new ambulance service during a special event on Jan. 8.

After years of relying on Gold Cross Ambulance, the regional service provider, 911 calls will now be managed directly by fire department paramedics and emergency medical technicians, reported.

Officials expressed optimism that this change will improve 911 response times.

The department invested $667,000 to purchase three ambulances, hire six new staff members and acquire the necessary equipment. This cost will be offset by the revenue generated through their services, offered at a reduced rate. Transportation fees for Grand Chute residents will begin at $1,300, while non-residents will be charged approximately $1,700.
